A few days ago, reports emerged that Apple flew five planes full of devices from India to the United States to avoid the new tariffs announced by Trump. This morning, Reuters published a report that Apple actually managed to export six planes full of devices to the United States from India.
Apple successfully asked the Indian customs department to shorten the process of inspecting exported cargo from 30 hours to 6 hours to ensure that products were shipped out before the tariffs took effect. At that time, India was subject to a 26% tariff but this was still lower than the 34% imposed on China. According to Reuters estimates, each plane can carry 100 tons of cargo and this means that up to 1.5 million iPhone 14s may be flown.
Uncertainty still exists regarding the tariffs imposed by the United States because the Trump administration has not yet released a complete confirmation document on the mechanism that will be used. With tariffs changing from day to day, it only causes investor anxiety and as a result, the shares of major technology companies that rose yesterday have now fallen again.
