Facebook Reduces Spammy Content Spread

As the world’s number one social media platform, Facebook has over 2 billion daily active users. So to ensure content gets noticed, various tactics are used to promote content with spam tactics being widely used. This can be in the form of visuals that are not in line with the content and using bots to leave comments so that it can then be promoted by the algorithm.

Starting today, Facebook is cracking down on spammy content. When it is detected, Facebook will reduce its spread to users’ timelines and will ensure that accounts cannot generate revenue. Human users can now also report irrelevant comments simply to increase engagement falsely.

Last year, Facebook said it had removed 100 million fake Pages for using follower-boosting scams. It also removed 23 million fake profiles that took on the identities of famous individuals for fraudulent purposes.

These steps are being taken by Facebook to restore the “OG Facebook” that Mark Zuckerberg promised. A few weeks ago, the friends-only timeline was enabled for users in the United States. There is still no word on when it will be rolled out to all users at this time.
