The explosion of social media has also led to various influencers sharing tips involving investments and financial products. In parallel, the Securities Commission Malaysia was previously ready to update the guidelines involving advertising products categorized under the capital market, including trading platforms, cryptocurrencies, unit trust funds, and others.
These guidelines will impose a ban on promotional or advertising activities of capital market products and services by individuals who are not licensed by the SC in Malaysia. This step is to ensure responsible advertising activities of capital market products and at the same time ensure that investors are always protected.
In addition to the influencers themselves, advertisers also need to be responsible for the marketing activities of their agents on social media. At the same time, influencers who choose to promote a capital market product of their own free will will also be subject to these Guidelines.
The SC said the revised guidelines will be effective from November 1, 2025. For those of you who are interested, you can check these guidelines via the SC's official website today.
