With the United States blocking the sale of NVIDIA H20 chips to China two weeks ago, companies in China are now looking for alternatives to continue their modern intelligence training. According to the latest Wall Street Journal report, Huawei has started testing the Ascend 910D chip at several local companies.
The Ascend 910D chip is believed to have higher processing power than the NVIDIA H100, whose sales to China have been banned since 2022. It is another iteration of the Ascend 910 chip that has been offered for the past few years. Previously, the Ascend 910C was reported to have only 60% of the processing power of the H100.
If all goes well, the Ascend 910D will start being accepted by customers starting next month. Over the past two weeks, Huawei has launched its new Ascend 920 AI chip and CloudMatrix 384 AI browser system as a competitor to the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 system.
