Jack Dorsey Wants Intellectual Property Laws Abolished

Under intellectual property (IP) laws, creators of content or products can profit for decades after a design is filed. This prevents pirated creations and causes brilliant ideas to become a source of income for others. But Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter and Block, is now saying that IP laws should be abolished through tweets on X.

According to Dorsey, current IP laws stifle innovation and only give windfall profits to their holders. His opinion received support from Elon Musk but was met with objections from X users shortly after the post was uploaded.

What has happened recently is that OpenAI and Google have called for the IP bill to be weakened to allow US AI models to be trained using works that have intellectual property rights.

OpenAI and Meta have faced several major lawsuits for training their AI models using pirated works. The reason given is that American competitors such as China do not respect intellectual property and therefore risk becoming a superpower.
