At the end of 2023, the Malaysian government announced a visa waiver program for tourists from Malaysia and China to facilitate two-way travel between the two countries.
The latest visa waiver period, which allows Malaysians to travel to China for 90 days, while Chinese citizens can visit Malaysia for 30 days. The visa waiver period was originally supposed to be for a year, but with the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping the other day, 31 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed, one of which was related to this matter.
With this renewed agreement, both Malaysians and Chinese can enjoy this visa waiver period for the next five years, with the option to extend the period for another five years.
This was announced by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution who also said that 1 million Chinese people have visited Malaysia by taking advantage of this holiday visa waiver period.
Before this latest MoU agreement, Malaysians could travel to China with a visa exemption until the end of this year, while Chinese citizens could travel to Malaysia with a visa exemption until the end of next year.
