Meta Starts Using AI to Detect Teens Who Lie About Their Real Age

When we were young, we all wanted to look older and more mature, especially online. Now that we are old and have back pain, many want to look younger with face filters used on social media. The truth is that many people are uncomfortable with their own age. At Meta, they are trying to combat the issue of underage users who lie about their real age using artificial intelligence (AI).

This feature using AI has been tested previously in a small number but has now finally been activated to ensure the safety of teen users. Based on usage habits and uploaded content, Meta can guess whether the user is a teen or an adult.

If age lying is detected, the account will automatically be changed to a Meta Teen Account which limits interaction with strangers, contact by adults and is not allowed to do live streaming.

Meta said this feature was activated because it realizes that not all parents and guardians monitor the social media activities of children under their care. Because AI is used, mistakes can occur. If an adult user's account is labeled as a teen, the user can apply to have it changed again.
