MG S5 EV to be launched at a price of around RM 115K

Towards the Malaysia Auto Show event that will take place in May 2025, various brands have started to showcase their new vehicles. MG, which also offers electric cars, today showcased their latest electric car, the MG S5 EV.

If the latest electric model from MG is the MG Cyberster which was announced at the KL International Motorshow last year and is in the ‘roadster’ class, the MG S5 EV electric car is a B-segment SUV, where it has the same size and classification profile as the Proton eMAS 7 and BYD Atto 3, and will compete fiercely in this class. It comes with specifications, functions and accessories that can make Proton and BYD not sit comfortably.

There are versions offered with different battery capacities. The first version has a 49 kWh battery that provides a travel distance of 340 KM and has a DC 120 kW fast charging that allows charging from 10%-80% in 24 minutes.

The higher-battery version has a 62.2 kWh battery that provides a range of 430 KM but has a faster DC charging, which is 150 kW allowing for 10%-80% charging in 26 minutes. Both versions have 6.6 kW AC charging.

In terms of performance, it is powered by an electric motor at the rear that can provide a total power of 125 kW and 250 Nm of torque, allowing acceleration from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds. Other features include V2L, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 10.25-inch instrument display, a 12.8-inch infotainment display, 7 airbags and a level 2 ADAS self-driving system. For the 62 kWh battery version, it also has a translucent panoramic roof, a 6-speaker premium audio system and a 360-degree camera.

The final price has not yet been announced, but MG Malaysia is targeting to sell it for around RM 115,000. At that price, it will compete closely with the Proton e.MAS 7 Prime version, and also the BYD Atto 3. Let's all look forward to its official launch soon.
