Netflix Tests OpenAI-Powered Search

This weekend, many people will be looking for content that can be streamed through their subscription service. Typically, searches are conducted based on genre, content type and who the actors are. But this is sometimes not very helpful. Bloomberg reports that Netflix has begun testing content search powered by OpenAI to provide better recommendations to customers.

Searches can now be done based on the customer's mood or various other parameters that were not previously supported by Netflix. With this, the use of natural language can be used to find the most appropriate content to watch. Currently, OpenAI-powered search is only provided to users in Australia and New Zealand in the iOS app. It will later be expanded to other countries in stages.

In a world filled with millions of content, it is admittedly difficult to find the content you want to watch. Sometimes a streaming subscription feels like a waste of content with what is offered that does not suit your taste. With a smarter search system, perhaps from now on there will no longer be incidents of scrolling through content on Netflix for 10 minutes but then closing the app because nothing catches your eye.
