Meta has launched a new application known as Edits which is designed to help make it easier for users to make edits, as well as produce video content. In other words, this application is Meta's answer to CapCut. Based on initial attempts, the application offers various interesting features that are felt to be able to meet the needs of today's users. Here is an article on our initial attempts using this application.
Our initial attempts found that Edits provides a simple and interesting video editing tool for ordinary users. The Edits application provides an easy video editing experience. The user interface (UI) is designed neatly, simply and user-friendly, similar to what Instagram offers.
This approach should make it easier for new users to understand and use this application without having to learn much because its features are already familiar to Instagram users. With an organized interface, users can also access various functions and features quickly and easily.
One of the main features offered in this application is Effects. Edits provides up to 11 types of effects for the purpose of further beautifying the videos produced. Although the number may be quite limited compared to the CapCut application, the effects provided are sufficient to produce a creative and interesting video. The filter section is also seen to resemble the filter section on Instagram which allows users to change the style of the video according to the desired theme.
The Text function in Edits is also seen to be interesting. Users can choose from various font categories such as Simple, Bold, Retro, Playful, and Handwriting for the purpose of expressing their respective creativity. In addition, this application also offers more interesting text animation effects compared to the options offered on Insta Stories. This ability makes the text in the video stand out more and thus can produce aesthetic videos.
Another feature provided is Transition which can help users combine scenes in the video smoothly. Although this transition option is quite limited compared to the CapCut application, it is still felt to be able to meet the needs of users in producing neat videos.
The Edits application also offers a Cutouts function powered by Meta AI technology. This function can automatically detect subjects in the video and cut them well. It is also similar to the Create Sticker function offered on Insta Stories, but the difference is that it works for video formats. As a result, users can focus specifically on certain subjects in their videos.
Although Edits offers various interesting features, it still has shortcomings such as the lack of a Keyframe function at this time. The feature is very useful because it allows for more detailed control when editing animations or elements in videos. However, it is not a big issue, as most regular users only make basic edits. Meta also announced that the Keyframe feature will arrive in a future update without sharing a specific timeframe.
Apart from video editing, Edits has a video management section to make it easier for users to manage their saved content. Through it, users can organize videos into specific folders, making the search and management process more organized. Edits also provides a special tab for watching video reels, in addition to which users can select the Inspiration tab to get more creative ideas from posted videos. There is a Following tab to watch videos from accounts they follow, but users can only save without the ability to comment or like.
Edits also allows users to record and export videos with resolutions up to 4K. At the same time, they can adjust camera settings such as frame rate, and dynamic range for higher quality results. What's more interesting is that users can also share edited videos without watermarks, and directly to supported social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
