Sony PlayStation 5 Price Increases in Four Markets

Sony has announced an increase in the selling price of the PlayStation 5 console in the European, UK, New Zealand and Australian markets today. According to Sony, the price has been increased due to a challenging economic environment such as high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.

In Europe and the UK, only the price of the PS5 Digital Edition has been increased, but in New Zealand and Australia, both the digital edition and the Blu-Ray drive have increased. The price of the Blu-Ray drive sold separately has also been increased starting today. The selling price of the PlayStation 5 Pro, however, remains unchanged. The change in the selling price is between 30-50 Euro/Pound/Australian Dollar/New Zealand Dollar depending on the market.

Sony also said that the selling price of the PS5 and Blu-Ray drive will also be increased in the EMEA market but did not specify which countries will be affected or the new selling price. This is an early sign that the selling price of the five-year-old console may also be increased in other markets including Malaysia in the near future. Usually, the price of the console is reduced after half a decade, but the opposite is true for the PS5.

At this point the sale price of PS5 in Malaysia is as below.

PS5 Digital Edition – RM 2069

PS5 Disc Edition – RM 2499

PS5 Pro – RM 3849
