Tesla Stops Selling Model S and Model X in China Due to High Tariffs

Chinese electric vehicles are increasingly seen as a global choice, but one American electric vehicle brand, Tesla, is still seen as steadfast in selling their vehicles in the Chinese market.

However, due to the ongoing trade war between the United States and China, each of which has imposed very high tariffs on each other, Tesla seems to have to make a drastic decision regarding two of their electric car models.

Soon, two of their car models, namely the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X, two of their most expensive electric vehicle models, will no longer be offered in the country, because they are no longer worth bringing into the country, especially since both models are only built in their factory in the United States.

All products imported from the United States to the Chinese market will be subject to a 125 percent tariff, and because of this, Tesla has decided not to sell both models in the country. This is also reported to be not a big loss for Tesla because the Model S and Model X are models that are not as popular as their other two electric vehicle models.

For other models like the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y, these cars are built in China for that market, and are not affected by the tariffs imposed by the Chinese government. In fact, these are the models that Tesla sells to other markets in the Asian region.
