WhatsApp Introduces New Features for Better Chats, Groups, Calls, and Channels

WhatsApp has rolled out a variety of new features and exciting updates to improve the user experience. Among the latest improvements are easier communication through conversations, calls, and channels. Where, users can now see the number of group members (Online indicator in group chats) who are online in real time by bringing the group name (Groups).

In addition, highlight support (Highlight notifications in groups) allows users to customize notifications in Groups by choosing to receive only mentions, replies, and messages from saved contacts, or get all notifications.

The new update also allows users to create events (Events updates) in the individual conversation window, in addition to the group as before. This event feature allows RSVPs to be added as 'maybe', invitations for a friend (plus one), setting an event end date for a longer period, and ensuring that events remain pinned for easier access.

The new feature for reactions also allows users to react (Tappable reactions) by simply tapping the desired reaction. iPhone users also now have access to scan documents directly from the app (Document scanning on iPhone) via the document scanning option in the attachment section. For video calls, iPhone users can zoom in and out while in a call using finger gestures.

Even more interestingly, 1:1 calls now allow users to add other individuals directly from a conversation (Add to call from a chat) by tapping the call icon and selecting ‘add to call’. The new technology introduced also helps improve the quality of video calls automatically, where the video quality can be upgraded to HD for a more satisfying experience.

Channel admins can now record and share short videos of up to 60 seconds (Video notes for Channels) directly with their followers. Users can also read transcripts of voice messages shared through Channels (Voice message transcripts on Channels) which is useful when they cannot hear the message clearly. Finally, Channel admins can use unique QR codes (QR codes) to make it easier for other users to join the channel.
