The AI Overviews search feature introduced on Google Search has now been expanded to YouTube. YouTube announced a test of search results using AI Overviews this week, randomly giving them to select Premium subscribers.
Through AI Overviews, YouTube wants to provide video recommendations that it feels are more relevant and accurate. For example, when a search is conducted for “font to best,” AI Overviews will suggest videos that it feels are relevant even if this phrase is not included in the video title.
There are no screenshots of how AI Overviews provides content recommendations to users at this time. The only thing to be hoped is that AI Overviews has been improved over the past year to prevent repeated incidents of misinformation. Last year, the feature was temporarily discontinued after it provided inaccurate information such as Obama being America’s first Muslim President and putting glue on pizza to make the cheese stickier.
