YouTube Malaysia today shared about the introduction of YouTube Shopping in Malaysia. The feature has been tested for the past month in Malaysia, and 850 content creators have tried it so far. With today's announcement, more content publishers are expected to join it, and promote more products through their videos on YouTube.
YouTube Shopping is one of the features offered by YouTube for content creators. Through it, content creators or video publishers on the platform can add links to the e-commerce platform, while generating revenue through commission sharing.
For this introductory phase, YouTube is partnering with Shopee. With this step, all content publishers can register directly through the YouTube platform, and then start promoting products through their respective videos. YouTube has not commented on other e-commerce platforms that they will support in the future.
YouTube says that each video can include up to 60 products through it. Unlike before, where many content publishers included a buy link in the description section, with the YouTube Shopping integration, a “View Product” button is displayed above the video, and users can tap to open a list of products promoted through the video.
For content publishers, you can also see the commission percentage offered when adding a product in YouTube Studio for a product. YouTube says that this commission payment will occur between 60 days and 120 days after the sale of the product. This is to ensure that there are no mistakes in paying for returned purchases.
With this introduction, we may see more videos including products linked directly to Shopee on YouTube. For content creators, you can check out this YouTube Shopping integration through YouTube Studio today, and immediately start integrating and adding product links through it. For sellers, you can sell as usual on Shopee, and manage payments and offers for the affiliate program on Shopee.
